Tina: Hi Jack! How was your day at school?
Jack: Unusual. The whole class brought their bikes and we cycled outside the town.
Tina: Let me guess. You rode to see the ruins of the old castle.
Jack: Luckily not. The place is interesting but I was there with my parents last week.
Tina: So where did you go?
Jack: To the forest.
Tina: Why there? I think the lake would be much better on such a hot day.
Jack: Well, first we wanted to go the lake. But most of the girls didn’t have swimsuits, so we changed our plans. And it was a great idea. It was quite cool among the trees and we had a lot of fun.
Tina: I see.

Tekst 2.
Boy: Hi Rita. I have a problem I don’t know what to buy my mum for birthday.
Girl: What did you get her last year?
Boy: A perfume. She loves cosmetics but I wouldn’t like to buy it again.
Girl: One idea is that you could buy her a ticket to the cinema. There is a new romance on.
Boy: Well… yes, that’s something. I guess she may enjoy it.
Girl: And how about a book? You said she loves reading.
Boy: Great idea, but dad is going to buy her a book. He first came up with it.
Girl: I see. So…?
Boy: The ticket will be perfect. Maybe I will buy two. She could take someone with her.

Tekst 3.
Girl: Dad, what’s for dinner tonight?
Dad: What would you like to have, sweetheart?
Girl: I’m thinking of a fruit salad. You could make it from peaches, watermelon, pears and bananas.
Dad: I’m afraid we don’t have any peaches and the pears are not fresh enough to cut them into the salad
Girl: So take the apples and oranges instead. They should go well with the bananas and watermelon.
Dad: Forget the oranges. You are allergic to them. But apples sound good.
Girl: OK, dad. I’m sure that even without oranges and pears it’s going to be delicious.

Tekst 4.

Girl: Hi Joe. What’s up?
Boy: Well, I’ve just come back from a school trip
Girl: That’s great. Where did you go?
Boy: It was a tour. We set off on Monday morning to visit several places. First we went to Leeds. A great city, I’d say. Then we went to York, a town north-east of Leeds. There we saw The Viking City. It was really amazing. Next we travelled south to
the town of Selby to see the old shipyard – quite a nice place. We returned home on Wednesday night.
Girl: Why so late?
Boy: We had some problems with the coach on the way home. It broke down and we waited for the service to arrive and repair it. It took two hours. Finally, they called the driver that they wouldn’t come because their vehicle got stuck in a huge traffic jam.
Girl: So how did you manage to get home?
Boy: The driver had some tools and he was able to fix the broken part somehow. But we couldn’t ride fast and we were back at around midnight, totally exhausted.
Girl: I see. But you had an exciting adventure.
Boy: Well, it wasn’t so exciting then.

Tekst 2.
Man: Hello! I’m calling in to say it’s good you’re talking about talent shows today. I’d like to say that there are so many of them nowadays that they are hard to follow. I remember the first shows full of amateur participants and enthusiastic audience in the studio. As a professional singer, I was asked to be a member of the jury in one of the singing contests. I was very close to young performers and felt how excited and involved they were. Sometimes, I was also surprised by someone’s hidden talents that came out in the programme.

Today, the contests are filled with professional singers, dancers or musicians, which makes the shows more competitive and doesn’t let many amateurs to show their talents. Performers today are not so excited about shows, but they are more keen on winning. They take part because they want to prove they are the best. Is it good? I’m not sure. All I can say it that nowadays it is something different than it used to be not so long ago.

ZADANIE 2

Speaker 1
I think young people are rather irresponsible and shouldn’t get a driving license too early. I read that they are guilty of most accidents connected with speeding. Their young age plus lack of experience make their driving very dangerous for other drivers. I think that the tickets for young drivers for breaking traffic regulations should definitely go up.
Speaker 2
Young drivers sometimes tend to disobey rules. But on the other hand, because they are young, they can react quickly on the road even when they speed. And It’s not true that you are safer when travelling slowly. I heard about an 70-year-old lady who had a crash driving at the speed of 30 km/h. She didn’t notice the change of traffic lights and hit a car in front of her.
Speaker 3
In my opinion, letting teenagers drive a car puts at risk the lives of all other drivers. Young people simply lack experience and, what’s more important, imagination to see the consequences of their careless road behaviour. They often feel too confident, so they have a crash on the road. I think the whole situation could be better if driving tests were not so easy to pass and if future young drivers were at least a few years older.
Speaker 4
I don’t think that young drivers cause more danger than others even if they sometimes tend to cross speed limits. For example, most of all accidents are connected with drunk-driving and the motorists who are involved in them are usually middle-aged people. So I don’t believe that they should raise the minimum age for young people who get a driving licence. It simply wouldn’t help much.

Which speaker
A. says the age when you can get a driving licence should be raised.
B. explains why experience is the most important for a driver.
C. points to the most common cause of accidents.
D. suggests increasing fines for young motorists.
E. gives an example of a specific accident.

STAY OUT OF TROUBLE
3.1. ____
You may get into trouble because you don’t follow your instincts. If they are telling you that something may be a bad idea, then think twice and stay away. If you have a feeling that something is wrong, even if you can't say why, there is a high chance that you are right. Don’t get involved then.
3.2. ____
Those who may get you in trouble are often your very best friends. If you really want to stay out of trouble, you cannot spend time with the same guys who make you stay indoors as a punishment from your parents. It is better to slowly back away from them as kindly and politely as possible. Such friends are not for you.
3.3. ____
Having someone that you really admire can help you avoid problems and make the right decisions. It can be your parent, an older sibling, a teacher at school, or a friend that could be a role model for you. You can come to this person for advice on how to do something meaningful with your life or if you just have a problem.

LEARNING AT HOME
Not every parent looks forward to the day when their child goes off to school. 4.1. ... Instead, they are choosing to teach their children at home. Parents, caregivers, or private tutors educate children individually at home instead of sending them to public or private schools. This is called ‘homeschooling’.

There are many reasons why some parents choose to homeschool. 4.2. ... Others want their child's education to be based on their religion or moral beliefs. Yet another reason is that, there are parents who feel like education in school is not good enough.

There are many different ways to homeschool and it allows lessons to be suited to children's needs. 4.3. ... Another way that some parents choose is called ‘unschooling’. It lets a child decide when, and how they want to learn based on their natural curiosity.

Some people worry that homeschooling means that students will not have opportunities to socialize. 4.4. ... There, students will learn and play together and participate in activities that would normally happen in school like school trips and proms.
Being homeschooled doesn't mean a student cannot go to college. Most of them accept homeschooled students. It is important, however, to create a portfolio or proof of what has been learned.
